Maharashtra power crisis—basic facts

Power crisis is now a serious problem in the state of Maharashtra, the Gujarat government was right is saying that the Maharashtra government lacks clear vision and a concrete plan in dealing with the situation. Currently Maharashtra is short of 5500 MW and Bombay 400 MW. Tata Power Company has given a warning that if the current state of affairs continues then in the next summer the shortage for Bombay will be about 600 MW. There will be more number of malls in the city in the next 5 years, number of offices is also increasing but there don’t seem to be any power projects coming up. If electricity consumption is set to increase then the number of power generators must also increase otherwise the end result is that, in the villages there is load shedding of more then 8 to 10 hours and in the cities the citizens will have to pay more for the electricity that they use
